Meet the man who inspired Kitchen on the Street

Do you ever wonder if one person can truly make a difference? Allow us to introduce you to Dennis Cagle, the man who inspired Kitchen on the Street. As a priest and educator, Dennis had a passion to make a difference in the lives of those he served, especially children. It was this desire that prompted him to share the story of one of his students.

She would wait in the cafeteria, collecting the leftovers the other children left behind. When Dennis asked her about it, he discovered these leftovers were the primary source of food for her and her siblings. He couldn’t get her story out of his mind and shared it with us. As a result, Kitchen on the Street became a reality.

Dennis is not here today. At the age of 56, he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer, but not before learning that his story had resulted in 20-30 children being fed each week through our ministry. Today, there are more than 215 children who have enough to eat because Dennis cared enough to tell the story of hunger from a child’s perspective.

You’re walking in his footsteps... and like him, you’re making a lasting difference in the lives of hungry children. It’s a legacy of help and hope we all share in; a fitting tribute to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, priest, educator, and friend.
